The Musical Ambassadors' mission is to bring talented musicians from different parts of the world together, each one representing their country as a 'Musical Ambassador', creating new music together and inspiring others across the world.
I have always been interested in working with different cultures, from house-building projects in Mexico, to working with youth and adults while creating a music program in Panama City, Panama. I know that each culture has their own strength and beauty to offer to the world. I have lived in the USA, Panama, Kyrgyzstan, Chile, Argentina, Ecuador, Columbia and now Germany. My love for other cultures only grows. And not only for the people, their culture, traditions and language, but also for their music.
Music can speak the heart language of the people. I have found that through my own experience and through speaking and working with ethno-musicologists I've met, the power music--especially the traditional music of a culture--can touch and move people's hearts. When I started to incorporate traditional elements into the music group I worked with in Panama, I was amazed at the excitement and how much it meant to the people just by adding one of their traditional instruments to the group.
In September 2014, I was invited to go to Ghana with the German/Ghanaian artist Philip Metz to and participate in his project, Eagle Africa. My role was to create music that represented both Germany and Ghana, by working and composing with local artists in Ghana and combining their traditional music and instruments with Western classical elements. The result was one of the best musical experiences of my life. I had the honor to meet and play with Dela Botri, who is well-established in Ghana with his traditional Ghanaian band, and together we combined our original music to create something beautiful and new.
I returned to Ghana in April 2015 to not only make a CD with Dela Botri, but also to join him in supporting a school called "Universal Wonderful Street Academy" for children who are homeless or without parents, living on the streets in the fishing community, Jamestown, in Ghana. Through crowd funding, we were able to offer music classes to the school, purchase musical instruments and in the evenings produce a CD involving people from the community and a talented drummer/student from the school. The experience was rewarding, inspiring and moving for me, and most of all, I saw the impact that it had on the students and how eager they were to learn.
I am currently working with different "Musical Ambassadors" living in Berlin who are from different countries such as Seria, India, Mali, and together we are combining their traditional music with Western classical elements on the cello and violin.
My vision is to continue the project and work in different countries around the globe, inspiring others and making a difference in the countries we visit either through education by inspiring new musicians or through humanitarian work.
